I just started my first round of chemo last Thursday Aug 3 Taxol/Carboplatin for breast cancer. I started having symptoms 2 days later which I expected however this severe abdominal pain is awful and has not let up. Has anyone been given an explanation for this other than being told by oncologist that this is expected.

Hi Sheila! I did probably
Hi Sheila! I did probably the same regimen last August thru October last year for triple negative breast cancer - 12 weeks of weekly Taxol, with Carboplatin added every 3 weeks 4x. This is a recurrence for me, I first had TNBC in 2009 and did Adriamycin, Cytoxin and Taxol - rough stuff, so I thought I was prepared for what would happen this time. The stomach pain from the Carboplatin - the flat out illness I experienced was horrible. I ended up hospitalized at one point for my abdominal issues! One thing we eventually did that helped was take me OFF of Zofran and instead put me on Emend - that helped. We did some other things as well - I'd be more than happy to speak with you via messaging here, email or we can exchange phone numbers. My email is kellyless13 AT gmail.com - the AT is of course an @ symbol, I just don't want the google bots to catch my email addy. Hang in there - you can get thru this! OH! You may want this bit of news :) I had a double mastectomy 5 weeks after I finished chemo and got a pathological complete response - NO LIVE CANCER anywhere! So that made the whole damn thing worthwhile. Kelly
