My father, 83, had shingles around his left eye and forehead in March 2017, the rash cleared up fairly quickly after he was diagnosed and given meds, however the pain and headache lasted till about end of June. I have seen his short term memory loss increase drastically in the past month. I took him to the doctor and he said this is normal for his age, but it came on so quickly and continues to get worse. Is this a side effect from the shingles and the medications such as OxyContin he was on for over 2 months? I am at wits end as he really likes his doctor. I want to take him for a 2nd opinion but don't want to insult him, or is this just part of having the shingles in the cranial area? If anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I was diagnosed with internal shingles 3 months ago after being in severe pain with swollen glands and exhaustion. For a month I took Lyrica twice a day. For two months I have been taking it at night. The pain is less. The exhaustion is still a problem. My hair has been falling out by the strands every day.

I was given the prolia injection for the first time on 7/24/17 and by 7/30/2017 I broke out in shingles. In addition my IBS exacerbated. I am now having to take prescription medication for my constipation.
How long will the shingles last? What medications have helped you?
I am also on synthroid and over 65 years of age.

I had a case of shingles many years ago, and later took the anti-shingles shot. I recently started taking Metformin, and soon developed a fiery case of the shingles. Since this was my only new medication, I suspected Metformin to be the cause.
