Menopause is one v important, and yet frequently overlooked, causes of peripheral neuropathy. It varies from mild to severe- electrifying excruciating type of pain. It is at times engrossing, sparing not a single little part of the female body; in my case the "electric current sensation" would pierce me from head to the tip of my toes!
In brief, estrogen depletion impact in the brain, affects neurotransmitter balance, which drives this neuropathy sensation. This type of pain does not usually respond to analgesics like paracetamol or even antiinflammatories, but mostly responds to drugs that enhance serotonin, while narcotics are not as effective, have side effects, and lead to addiction.
Using Hormone Replacemeny Therapy( HRT), certainly ameliorates the estrogen deficit and thus improves pain and other symptoms of menopause, but they pose serious side effects like cancer, stroke and thrombosis.
So there is the menopause predicament; my experience therein is florid, and I stand ready for any inquiry on your side.
