I just became aware of a possible relationship between methadone use and interstitial lung disease and am trying to get more information. My wife was put on methadone as a cheaper form of pain management for chronic back pain. A few months after starting methadone she was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease and died a few months later. Should I be concerned that methadone could have been the cause?

I have been on Methadone for 7 + years, I am at 130mg and 5/6 months ago had my first brain surgery for tumour removal. since then I've had 3 more surgeries with problems from infection, and have had 3 seizures all told. all were at home while standing. I'm now on dilatation 300mg at bedtime and I'm having severe problems I think with this affecting my methadone dose. I recently had it increased 5mg to 135mg, but I didn't seem to make a whole lot of difference. I'm reluctant to increase the methadone any more, but I cant take this withdrawal coming on 6 to 8 hours after I take my methadone in the morning. my methadone doctor knows what's going on, and I'm seeing him tomorrow. should I have it increased again?

I have a question and wanted some feedback. I started having chronic pain and many other symptoms at 19 and became intolerable in my early 20's. I was finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia and some other medical conditions. I started taking methadone for pain control 16 years ago and started having severe pain in what I believe to be my pancreas. The pain is just under the center of my ribcage but towards my back. The pain radiates in to my back at times. It also feels better when I am leaning forward which makes me think it's my pancreas. My Mom passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2012 and I remember her telling me before she was diagnosed that her pain was a bit better when she leaned forward. I need to go see my Doctor but haven't made a appointment yet because I haven't been feeling good. Does this sound like pancreatitis?

  • Over ten years ago, my mother was given methadone ...

Over ten years ago, my mother was given methadone as "pain management" post knee surgery. Not having been advised that she should not quit it 'cold turkey', she did and ended up in the ER, where she was then diagnosed with a-fib. Note: Prior to that day, in that she was finally being accepted for knee replacement surgery, among other attempts to deny her the surgery, various physicians had, among other things, insisted she have numerous cardio workups, (even an extensive one, 'post surgery' three months in, that was done the very day before the ER visit) and she had no history of a-fib at all. I had to fight for over five years to get her a pacemaker. She is 95 now and believe me, 'ageism' and physician-based hesitancy played a big role in opposing any helpful intervention, first re. her knees and then later, her heart issue. Indeed, after the a-fib diagnosis, and my, eventually, successful effort to get her prescribed a blood thinner, two different cardiologists stupidly took her off her thinner and in both instances, within a few days she had a stroke. We are not litigious people, but I can sure see why some doctors and hospitals get sued. My mother is 95 now and lives at home with me. She drives to the store, etc on her own and has no apparent dementia, (some residual effects manifest from the two TIA's, but she is dealing with that). Just thought I should give some history. Thank you all. Gary
