Am writing to see if this makes sense to anyone. My husband developed urinary retention following taking Donepezil and required hospitlisation and catheter for months.( He stopped the drug as soon as the retention occured) Had an awful few months I insisted on him eventually having a catheter with a "flip valve" and we gradually retrained his bladder to register when he needed to go and released the tap . We were thrilled with the result when catheter was finally removed and he had control. But his urologist threw a dampener and said he would revert to retention within a month because he has Parkinson's disease/ I am happy to report we have proved him wrong he has been able to control his urine for over a year and we are now certain it was the donepexil that caused the problem, not Parkinsons. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

  • I'm a 33 year old back pain patient who's been on ...

I'm a 33 year old back pain patient who's been on Methocarbomol 500mg for 7 months. I take it at least once a day, but sometimes 2-3 times daily.

Upon month 5 i started to experience sudden and terrible bladder symptoms:
    - urinary retention (unable to empty my bladder fully
    - a constant urge to pee
    - extremely frequent urination (urinating multiple times an hour)
    - swelling of my lower abdomen
    - but no blood in urine or stool, no itching / burning, no incontinence or overactive bladder (Thank GOD).
    - and other symptoms that resembled interstitial cystitis. I don't believe however, that "IC" is the original problem; rather, wondering if Methocarbomol caused it somehow.

At first, i thought it was a UTI - but no signs of infection showed up on 3 urine cultures. In addition, my symptoms didn't get better after 2 rounds of antibiotics.

Wondering if this "IC" type of problem is caused by the methocarbomol - because when i took a break from taking it for a little over a week, symptoms got better. BUT - during that week, i also cut back on possible food triggers like caffeine, alcohol, citrus, chocolate, artificial sweetners like aspartame, and carbonated drinks.

So not sure if those were triggering the problem (along w/ possible inflammation) or if they were only worsening something already caused by the methocarbomol. Curious if anyone else has had a similar experience when taking Methocarbomol?
