About 3 years ago I had a hysterectomy as they where prepping me for surgery they gave me versed. I moved over on to the surgery table looked up at the nurse to tell her I was having trouble breathing. I couldn't speak I flopped back on the table not breathing and unable to move. I was aware of all the conversations of the anesthesiologist breathing for me. Him telling a nurse to page another doctor but to tell him it's not an emergency. I was sitting there screaming in my brain I am unable to move or breath how is this not an emergency? I still have flash backs to it.

Today I had an EGD and was prepped with Versed then given propofol and fentanyl. The procedure lasted perhaps 15 minutes. I was extremely comfortable post op and wanted to sleep. I recall, while still, groggy being told to wake up and get dressed, which I did. After I stood, I experienced severe leg tremors and could only shuffle, not walk. It lasted perhaps five minutes. I called the recovery nurse who called the CRNA. The CRNA told me that they had pulled me out of a deep REM sleep and this was the result. I had had a similar episode once waking up suddenly after taking Halcyon. Am I allergic or sensitive to Benzodiazapem based medications? Can I take them as long as I am not pulled out of REM sleep. It was awful, both times.

I am a registered nurse whose father developed a "versed induced psychosis" in September 2013. I had them stop the medication and he righted around in less than 24hrs. They took him for a flex-sig over 48hrs later without notifying me or the gastroenterologist who gave him versed liberally putting him back into the psychosis in an even deeper state. He had recovered to about 85% since. This week he fell and broke his hip. He did not have versed administered but instead propofol and spinal anesthetic. At 48hrs he was fine but has now reverted into a psychotic episode. Worst Father's Day ever!
