    Hi
It's axactly one year since I'm on xeralto. Definitely better than warfarin. I'm concerned that long term I might have issues and side effects. Suffered pulmonary clots twice, so definitely need it

Male 64. I have been on Xarelto 20mg daily for about one year. Prior to taking Xarelto I was taking Jantoven 6mg daily (Jantoven is Warfarin) I was prescribed warfarin after being hospitalized with massive pulmonary embolism's in both longs back in November 2011. In April 2012 I was diagnosed with polycythemia vera. It is believed that the polycythemia vera is what caused my embolism's back in November 2011. Since I have been on Xarelto my legs, ankles, feet, and hands swell up almost on a daily basis. The pain in my legs and hands is excruciating especially in my hands. At first I thought the pain and swollen hands was a result of doing any type of work with my hands. I see my hematologist on a monthly basis. Thinking the pain and swollen joints might be arthritis I seen a Rheumatologist twice. I was told I do not have RA. Just some arthritis in a couple of joints in my fingers. Nothing that would cause the pain and swollen fingers that I have. At times my hands are so swollen and crippled up they look like the hands of a 90-year-old person. Last week I went to see a hand specialist. The hand specialist thought that the problem might have to do with my PV or medications I take. He recommended that I do some hand therapy which I started the same day. That only seem to aggravate the situation as my hands were much worse later on that evening. Polycythemia vera is a blood cancer it causes intense pain throughout my body. My thinking is if it's not the illness it's a side effect of the medication that causes the pain. I take very strong dosages of two pain medications several times a day. Even with all the pain medication I still suffer. I believe the Xarelto is the cause of the pain and swollen limbs/joints as mentioned above. I would like to go to The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota but I read online that they have a waiting period of 3 to 4 months to get an appointment. I see my hematologist today I am going to ask him to try another medication I can no longer deal with the pain. To be honest I would like to just give up all my medications and whatever happens happens that's how bad I feel. We are prescribed medication that is supposed to help you. Some of these medications have so many bad side effects you wind up worse off than you were in the first place.

I started taking 20 mg of Xarelto about 3 months ago. I am diabetic and have had my BS under control using Glucovance. average 105. Within 2 or 3 days I begin to get higher BS reading; then after about a month the readings kept going higher (245) My diet had not changed nor my medication. I started fasting for 16 hours at a time. Now my reading are still high (160) range but seem to have stabilized in this area, even after fasting. I think these high readings are the effect of taking the Xarelto. I have read in other articles that I should adjust my reading downward by 30 to 40% for as long as I take this medication.
